Ishibashi Research Laboratory at Boston University
The Ishibashi Research Laboratory at Boston University specifically focuses on understanding how CHD and subsequent cardiac surgery impact the rapidly developing brain during the fetal, neonatal, and infant stages. We utilize cutting-edge neuroscience techniques in a variety of clinically relevant experimental models to study and research mechanisms of brain injury and immaturity.
Many children with congenital heart disease (CHD), especially those with the most complex conditions, experience behavioral challenges and neurodevelopmental delays even after successful surgical correction.
The long-term goal of our research program is to optimize treatment strategies and develop novel therapies that reduce neurodevelopmental impairment in children living with CHD.
